Bereniece Jones-Centeno, artistic director at the Astoria Liberty Theatre and Cascadia Concert Opera, and member of Partners for the PAC, has announced that the Liberty Theatre and the CCC Performing Arts Center are teaming up to offer two concerts and a prix fixe dinner at Carruthers and Astoria Coffeehouse and Bistro on Saturday September 23! The concert with the iconic Portland Chamber Orchestra at the Liberty Theatre at 4:00 pm and a concert featuring Cascadia Concert Opera at the CCC Performing Arts Center (known as the PAC located at the corner of 16th and Franklin) at 7:30 pm, are part of a special package that includes a menu of fixed price fare at Astoria Coffee House and Bistro or Carruthers between the concerts! This is a package deal for adult tickets at $60: all 3 items (Adult tickets to both shows – PCO and CCO and prix fixe menu) must be purchased to take advantage of the deal. The convenience of the prix fixe menu ensures sufficient time to dine between the concerts. Tickets for the full package may be purchased at the Liberty Theatre Box Office located near the corner of 12th and Commercial in Astoria OR or online at www.libertyastoria.org.
Tickets for the dinner may be purchased separately however the prix fixe menu is only available with the package. Tickets for both events can be purchased at Liberty Theatre box office in advance and separately at the doors of each event on the day of the performances.
At 4:00 pm, the evening begins with Portland Chamber Orchestra. In its 70th season, the Orchestra will feature special guest pianist Ruusamari Teppo under the baton of Yaacov Bergman, Music Director. Ms. Teppo began piano in her native country, Finland, at the age of five. She has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in the USA, Italy, France, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Germany, Belgium, Finland, Estonia, and South Africa. In March 2008 she won the second prize at the Petroff Piano competition in San Antonio, Texas. She has been an artist in numerous festivals and has performed for radio and television in Finland and the United States. A direct descendant of Jean Sibelius, Ms. Teppo performs many of his works.
Maestro Yaacov Bergman is currently Music Director/Conductor of the Portland Chamber Orchestra, the Walla Walla Symphony, the Siletz Bay Music Festival and the McCall Idaho Summerfest. He has made frequent guest appearances conducting the symphonic, operatic, oratorio, balletic, and pops repertoires. Born in Israel, Maestro Bergman initially studied violin and voice but he soon showed interest in composing and conducting. After graduation from the Rubin Academy of the Hebrew University, Jerusalem in conducting and composition, he completed post-graduate studies at the Mannes College of Music in New York as a student of Richard Westenburg. He pursued further conducting studies under the guidance of Charles Bruck, as well as private study under Leonard Bernstein. In 1998 he was the recipient of an Honorary Doctorate from Colorado Technical University.

At 7:30pm, Cascadia Concert Opera (CCO) brings a magical evening of opera and musical theater works, tango dancing, and a preview of their new opera Tango of the White Gardenia to the PAC. The PAC stage will be filled with professional musicians and dancers who will be premiering the new opera next fall! Tenor David Gustafson, Sopranos Kari Burgess and Bereniece Jones-Centeno, Astoria’s favorite bass vocalist Deac Guidi, tango sensations from Astoria Estelle Olivares and JL Gillikin, Bayan virtuoso Sergei Teleshev, and pianist Nathalie Fortin will thrill you with their fantastic artistry performing a wide selection of beautiful music while preparing you for the intrigue of Tango of the White Gardenia. This opera will premiere in Astoria in the Fall of 2018. This is your chance to get a sneak peek and meet the opera’s starring artists and their friends. The upcoming production of Tango of the White Gardenia aligns perfectly with CCO’s mission, to provide audiences with access to fresh opera performances and the artists who produce the magic.
Cascadia Concert Opera is dedicated to making opera accessible to audiences throughout the Pacific Northwest. CCO is a professional ensemble of regional musicians, presenting opera in semi-staged or concert format, in English, at little or no cost to the public. CCO is committed to developing community audiences and creating paid performance opportunities for artists from around the region. The group presents opera in the early fall and tours numerous cities throughout Oregon.
